Opportunity: Virtual Service Operations is seeking a Senior Azure Cloud Engineer to join our team in Greenbelt, MD. This hybrid role requires candidates to work on-site occasionally, with the remainder of the time spent working remotely. The Azure Cloud Architect will play a pivotal role in the design, deployment, and management of scalable, secure, and high-performing Azure cloud environments. They will leverage their expertise in cloud automation, security, performance optimization, and cross-functional collaboration to drive cloud strategy, innovation, and best practices. The role demands a deep technical understanding of Azure cloud services and the ability to lead teams in implementing cloud infrastructure solutions aligned with business goals. Responsibilities: • Azure Cloud Architecture & Management: • Design, deploy, and optimize complex Azure cloud environments for scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency. • Lead the implementation of cloud infrastructure solutions, including networking, storage, identity management, and security. • Establish best practices for resource scaling, cost monitoring, and cloud performance optimization. • Cloud Automation & Infrastructure as Code (IaC): • Develop and manage automation solutions using Azure Automation, PowerShell, Azure CLI, and Terraform. • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for cloud deployments, reducing manual efforts and enhancing consistency. • Automate provisioning, configuration management, and lifecycle processes to improve operational efficiency. • Cloud Security & Compliance: • Ensure the security and compliance of cloud infrastructure by managing Azure Security Center, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, and Azure Sentinel. • Implement security controls, including IAM, encryption, firewalls, and network security best practices. • Monitor, identify, and mitigate potential security threats, ensuring regulatory compliance. • Performance Monitoring & Optimization: • Oversee cloud resource and application performance using Azure monitoring tools. • Conduct root cause analysis for performance bottlenecks and infrastructure failures. • Implement cost management strategies to optimize cloud resource utilization. • Collaboration & Leadership: • Lead a team of cloud engineers, providing mentorship on cloud best practices, automation, and security. • Collaborate with development, operations, and security teams to ensure seamless cloud service integration. • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) on Azure cloud technologies, driving cloud innovation and operational efficiency. • Documentation & Reporting: • Maintain comprehensive documentation on cloud architecture, automation processes, security protocols, and operational procedures. • Prepare reports on cloud performance, security posture, and resource utilization for internal stakeholders. • Continuous Improvement & Innovation: • Stay up to date with emerging Azure cloud technologies, automation tools, and security trends. • Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement to enhance cloud strategy and operational effectiveness. Preferred Qualifications: • ITIL 3-4 certification • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate certification (or equivalent). • Experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and containerization technologies. • Familiarity with multi-cloud environments and hybrid cloud architectures. • Experience with DevSecOps practices, integrating security into the DevOps pipeline. • Knowledge of additional automation and orchestration tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef). Requirements: • 7-9 years of professional experience as an Azure Cloud Engineer • Please note that pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires U.S. citizenship status • New hires assigned on this project will be required to undergo and pass drug and alcohol tests per our client's contract requirements • Public Trust Clearance preferred • Advanced knowledge of Azure cloud services, including virtual machines, storage, networking, Azure Active Directory, and monitoring tools. • Strong hands-on experience with cloud automation tools such as Azure Automation, PowerShell, Azure CLI, and Terraform. • In-depth understanding of cloud security best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), network security, encryption, and threat detection. • Experience with cloud governance, compliance, and regulatory requirements. • Solid understanding of DevOps principles and tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, Git, Jenkins, Terraform).
