General Overview: As a dynamic, rapidly growing company, we are looking for a purpose-driven and dedicated talent to join our IT team. The Data Engineer is responsible for building scalable, high-performing data solutions that support decision-making across Smoothie King’s fast-growing business. This role plays a critical part in developing and maintaining data pipelines and business intelligence tools that support functions including supply chain, customer insights, and accounting—across both on-premises systems and cloud platforms. This position requires strong experience with the Microsoft BI stack, including SSIS, SSAS, SQL Server, Power BI, and Microsoft Fabric. The ideal candidate is comfortable navigating legacy systems while leveraging modern cloud technologies and demonstrates a strong focus on data governance, system performance, and cross-functional collaboration. Essential Functions: Data Engineering & Architecture • Design, build, and support scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, and Spark notebooks. • Develop and maintain data warehouses and semantic models to support enterprise reporting and analytics needs. • Build and maintain Master Data Management (MDM) integrations to ensure data consistency and accuracy across systems. • Troubleshoot and optimize SQL performance and data processes involving APIs, flat files, and structured databases. Business Intelligence & Reporting • Develop and support Power BI dashboards and self-service tools to deliver actionable insights to cross-functional teams. • Partner with business stakeholders to understand data needs and translate them into impactful reporting solutions. • Support enterprise adoption of Microsoft Fabric, including pipelines, OneLake, and Fabric SQL Database and Warehouse. CI/CD & DevOps • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Git, YAML, and DevOps best practices for streamlined development and deployment. • Maintain version control, conduct code reviews, and promote best practices for collaborative engineering workflows. Data Governance & Quality • Contribute to data governance efforts, including data quality, lineage tracking, and access control frameworks. • Support compliance with data privacy regulations and internal policies through secure and auditable data practices. Collaboration & Leadership • Work closely with cross-functional teams including IT, Marketing, Finance, and Operations to support enterprise data initiatives. • Mentor team members, share best practices, and influence the technical direction of the data engineering team. • Stay current on emerging technologies, tools, and trends in data engineering to ensure Smoothie King remains future ready. Education and Experience Requirements: Business & Communication Skills • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills; ability to translate technical concepts into business value. • Effective communicator and presenter, comfortable engaging with both technical and non-technical teams. • Proven ability to understand business objectives and deliver data solutions that support strategic goals. • Influential and confident when presenting recommendations or driving alignment across departments. Education and Experience: • A bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field, required. • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, working with the Microsoft BI stack (SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, Power BI). • Hands-on experience with or a strong desire to learn Microsoft Fabric, including Spark notebooks, pipelines, One Lake, Fabric SQL Database, and Fabric Warehouse. • Proficiency in T-SQL, DAX, Python, and PySpark. Familiarity with C# is a plus. • Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines using tools like SSIS, Azure Data Factory, or Spark. • Comfortable working with varied data sources: REST APIs, SOAP APIs, CSV, Parquet, and structured databases. • Solid understanding of CI/CD, version control (Git), and YAML-based deployment pipelines. • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and optimize SQL queries and data workflows. • Knowledge of data governance practices, including data quality, lineage, and access control. • Familiarity with MDM tools—experience with Profisee is a bonus. • Personal passion for health and fitness is a plus.
